At Great Bear Vineyards we put care, passion and flair into every aspect of our winemaking. We started our vineyard with the vision of producing exquisite wines to share with family and friends. We now make small lots available for you to enjoy. We limit our production to under 1,500 cases (60 barrels) with several of our varietals produced in lots of 100 cases. This allow us to take meticulous care of each wine from the vineyard through to bottle.

Our wines have won Silver, Gold and Double Gold at the San Francisco Wine Competition, the USA’s largest and most prestigious wine competition.

Nestled on the edge of Davis in Northern California, our complex soils, hot days, and nights cooled by the delta breeze, partnered with careful management, results in fruit filled with intense flavors. We hand-harvest only the finest clusters. We ferment in small lots, allowing us to take meticulous care in the production of our wine. Our white wines are aged in steel to produce a crisp, aromatic wine with mineral notes. Our red wines are aged for at least 18 months in French oak barrels, producing wines of depth and distinction.

We also specialize in producing premium hand-tended grapes to supply other world-class wineries in Napa, Sonoma and throughout California.

About

We tend the land in harmony with nature, sharing our beautiful vineyard with an abundance of wildflowers, bird and animal life. We have owls and other birds of prey to help keep the natural balance. The homestead, barn and gardens date back to 1860, giving the winery a true sense of place and history.
